SUMMARY:
The article presents a literary review of research on the use of biofeedback methods in the treatment of depressive disorders. The problem of effective therapy, prevention and rehabilitation of patients with depressive disorders is of particular relevance in modern conditions. Despite the appearance of a large number of modern antidepressants, the number of therapeutically resistant patients is about 30 %. In this regard, the interest of specialists in the use of non-drug therapy methods in the treatment of depression is currently growing.
The purpose of the study is to systematize scientific data on the effectiveness of the use of biofeedback methods in the treatment of patients with depressive disorders.
Conclusions: bio-management methods have proven to be quite effective in reducing symptoms of depression and improving the well-being of patients. However, despite the fact that there is no evidence that bio-management methods are ineffective, additional research is needed to clearly recommend their use in clinical practice.
Research material and methods: the keywords “neurofeedback”, “depression”, “biofeedback”, “electroencephalography”, “electromyogram”, “respiratory training”, “relaxation” were selected in databases (MEDLINE/PubMed and other sources) scientific publications from 1980 to 2019.
